This Month in The Bee Year |
| January: Despite the odd warm day, your bees are relying on their winter stocks of honey to survive. On those warm days check to see that your bees are taking cleansing flights. If you see no activity put your ear to the side of the hive and tap the hive. You should hear a momentary buzz. If not open your hive to check. Also lift your hives and if they feel light feed them with a 1:1 sugar-water mixture (top feeders work best). For more details check out January in The Bee Year. |

February Meeting
Making Splits
and Handling Swarms
Christi Baughman and Tom Scott
February 1st, 2012
The Point, Center for Arts and Education
C. C. Young Retirement Community
As the weather warms, the queen starts laying and the once spacious hive can become overcrowded, inviting swarming. Learn how to reduce the risk of swarming, what to do when you have a swarm and how to make splits of your hives to increase space and create more hives. Christi Baughman and Tom Scott will be leading the discussion.
Also this month we are introducing a new Q&A Session at 6:45 (15 minutes before the meeting). Come early to get your questions answered by our more experienced members in a more informal setting.
We will have our Bee Plant of the Month and Alan Eynon with our monthly In the Hive.
All meetings are free and open to the public. See the Meetings page for more details.
